What Is Humidity Indicator Card?
Humidity Indicator Cards (HICs) have round dots that are sensitive to humidity and change color from blue to pink according to the humidity level in the surrounding environment.
The tag acts as a warning, helping you know what moisture level the product is at, how to adjust and handle changes accordingly.
Often packaged with moisture bags and desiccants, the humidity warning tag is a small, cost-effective and easy-to-use device with the ability to provide reliable humidity readings.
The humidity measurement card meets all technical specifications with warning levels such as humidity warning cards from 30%, 40%, 50%, 5%, 10%, 15% and humidity warning cards from 5%, 10%, 60% comply with JDEC Standard.
Moisture measurement cards are available in two different models, Cobalt Dichloride Free and Cobalt Free to suit different needs and applications.
Cobalt Dichloride Free Moisture Measurement Card
Cobalt Dichloride Free (also known as blue moisture indicator card) is impregnated with a carefully mixed cobalt chloride solution.
This solution allows the tag to detect and change color from blue to pink once a certain relative humidity level is reached.
It is available in RH levels ranging from 5% to 60%.
- 30%, 40%, 50% humidity indicator card complies with MS20003-2.
- 5%, 10%, 15% humidity indicator cards comply with JEDEC Standard 033.
- 5%, 10%, -60% comply with JDEC Standard 033B.
Cobalt Free Moisture Meter Card
Cobalt Free (also known as brown moisture indicator card) has a copper chloride base that detects moisture and allows color change from brown to blue (blue).
These humidity sensor measuring cards do not contain cobalt chloride, making them safer to use.
They comply with Directive 67/548/ECC of the Council of the European Communities.
It is available in RH levels ranging from 5% to 60%.
- 30%, 40%, 50% humidity measurement cards comply with MS20003-2.
- 5%, 10%, 15% humidity indicator cards comply with JEDEC Standard 033.
- 5%, 10%, -60% comply with JDEC Standard 033B.

How Does A Humidity Measuring Card Work?
The moisture measuring cards are impregnated with a cobalt chloride solution that has been carefully mixed to change color from blue through different shades of magenta-red, to pink.
These tags are not exact indicators (only relative).
However, they are very good at telling you the maximum possible moisture content in packaging and containers.
Example 1: if all the dark blue dots on a tag are a 10% – 60% tag then you can rest assured that the humidity in that container is below 10%.
This is very important for some products and household appliances because as long as the humidity is below 40%, basic corrosion (rust) will not occur.
Mold in clothing or paper products will also not grow.
Finally, all sophisticated electronics: video cameras, computers, SLR cameras, sophisticated appliances, etc. Ensures a longer lifespan if they are maintained at low relative humidity.
Example 2: Humidity measuring card developed specifically for the electronics (computer chip) industry. These companies require the moisture content of their shipping packages to be below 10% and are working to maintain moisture below 5%.
