Why Flat Rack cargo needs a dedicated lashing plan
A Flat Rack has no side walls to help restrain the load. Cargo mass, centre of gravity, overhang and the forces created during lifting and transport should therefore be reviewed together before selecting restraints. Checks before tensioning the restraints
- Confirm cargo mass, dimensions and centre-of-gravity location.
- Check the deck, anchor points and lifting equipment for the planned operation.
- Select restraint directions, angles and materials for each securing position.
- Protect edges and use suitable anti-slip or cushioning materials at contact points.
- Balance tension, mark the secured positions and inspect the system before handover.
What to retain in the inspection record
Keep photographs before and after securing, an anchor-point plan, restraint specifications, the inspector name and the inspection time. Irregular or high-value cargo should be surveyed on site and the acceptance criteria agreed before the loading date.
