Real-life Testing Process in Durian Growing Area for 3 Crops Gives Surprising Results

To test the effectiveness of durian bags in the field , MTEC worked with Assist. Prof. Dr. Lampan Khurnpoon, Department of Crop Production Technology, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, and an established durian orchard in Rayong Province, Thailand. The trial has been running since 2019, covering three growing seasons so far.

The results showed that the durians covered with the bag  had a 30% thinner shell and were 10% heavier. The flesh and fruit color were also more attractive.

Durian bags  were found to be effective against mealybugs and molds.

In addition, it can be reused, at least for 3 cropping seasons as shown in this experiment. In addition to better fruit quality, the gardener also saves on pesticide costs.
